(INGE) LUISE SCHULZ
I have enjoyed drawing and painting since childhood and am basically self-taught I was unable to pursue my love of art until much later in life, but have been fortunate to travel to many countries in the meanwhile, and this helped me appreciate the many cultures and natural beauty that surrounds us in this world, and to apply it to my painting.
I never lost the desire to paint – to create with color, texture and light, so finally in the mid 90’s I began taking occasional classes at the Shadbolt Centre and Emily Carr School of Art in Granville Island I had the opportunity to go to Florence, Italy in 1996 with a group of students. It was such an inspiring experience to be exposed to some of the greatest art in the world. In 2006 I went with a group of artists to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico to paint “Plein Air”. It was very challenging and intimidating!
I have always thought that the expression “variety is the spice of life” could be applied in one’s artwork. I enjoy using different mediums, but prefer oil and acrylic, as well as many different styles from realistic to abstract. My preference is still painting in oils because of the richness of colors and the ability to manipulate and blend on the canvas. I have also been experimenting with different brushwork, with palette knife, paint pouring, mixed media and various interesting textures.
I am a member of the Burnaby Artists Guild and an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
I am in two shows a year, spring and fall, with the Burnaby Artists Guild at the Shadbolt Centre in Deer Lake Park. As Feature Artist in the 2013 Spring Show I had great success. My paintings have also been displayed in some Vancouver and Burnaby restaurants. I have an ongoing collection of works at The Old Bavaria Haus Restaurant in New Westminster. I also do commission work for clients.
My love of nature, travel and people will hopefully continue to serve me well as I try to capture these subjects on canvas. The last years have been a truly wonderful adventure that is giving me great satisfaction and joy!
